Transfer of Residence (ToR)
You will need to apply for ‘Transfer of Residence’ relief if you are moving to the UK. If approved, your household goods (and vehicles(s) if applicable) will be granted duty and tax free entry into the UK. With an exception to alcohol and tobacco all your used household effects will be applicable.
A2B Global Relocations & Storage recommends that you start the customs clearance process as soon as your move has been confirmed. This is because HMRC (UK Customs) are frequently overwhelmed with a backlog of applications, which means instead of waiting the stipulated 14 days for a reply, you could be left waiting for as long as 6 weeks during peak moving season (June-September).
